Energy efficiency continues to stack up as the lowest-cost energy resource, and the three highest energy-using appliances in the average home are clothes washers, dryers, and refrigerators, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Two basic steps to follow when getting a new appliance are 1) look for the Energy Star logo, because appliances with this logo are significantly more energy-efficient than the average comparable model and 2) read the Energy Guide label, to compare the efficiency or annual energy use of competing brands and similar models.
