A CSA is a model of local food distribution that ties together a community and its farmers. You purchase a “share” of a farm’s harvest at the start of each season, when the farmer most needs capital for seeds, soil amendments, labor and supplies. Then you get a share of the harvest through the season. For some farms, the share is through weekly portions of their produce. For others, it's through a discount at their farm stand.
