Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Norwich
The Town of Norwich has two public charging stations, funded by grants through the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development. Each is networked with ChargePoint, the biggest EV charging network in the U.S., and can charge two vehicles at a time. The station in the parking lot of Dan & Whit's General Store was installed in fall 2016, with support from Norwich Technologies and Solaflect Energy. The electricity used by the station is offset by the production from the 2.5-kW solar awning on the south wall of the General Store. The solar equipment, design work, and installation were donated by Norwich Technologies. Dan & Whit's generously provided space for the solar awning, the charging station and its parking spaces. The station in the parking lot for Huntley Meadow recreational fields and park-n-ride was installed in fall 2019. The grant was funded by the Volkswagen settlement agreement. The station is close enough to the interstate to serve visitors, and being adjacent to the town playing fields provides local drivers the ability to charge an EV while participating in recreation department activities. |
